Robert M. La Follette is shown at a radio microphone during a campaign speech, a setting that was still new to American politics in 1924. La Follette, the Wisconsin senator, was running for president that year as the Progressive Party candidate, and the 1924 campaign was among the first in which radio carried a candidate's voice into homes across the country. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that documented public figures and events of the era, made the image. The date comes from a related negative in the collection, and the glass shows streaks from natural deterioration of its original coating.
