The record names a man, Dr. Robert Hercod, and the glass negative is one of the National Photo Company Collection's plates, dated to about 1920 on the basis of neighboring negatives rather than the sitter's own paperwork. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that photographed government figures, buildings and street scenes in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates were later donated to the Library of Congress. Notes on this plate warn of streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of the original coatings, which is typical of glass negatives from this period.
