Glen Echo, in Montgomery County, Maryland, is the subject here, a place that drew crowds in the early twentieth century as a trolley-served amusement park and Chautauqua-style retreat along the Potomac. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the capital region and its surroundings for decades, made the glass negative, which later came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. The record dates it only to the years between 1910 and 1935, and the title comes from the studio's own notes rather than a verified source, so the exact moment it was taken remains uncertain. Visible streaks and blemishes on the plate come from the natural deterioration of its original coating.
