The panorama of the Goebel Brewing Company in Detroit is assembled from two glass plate negatives, which together show the brewery and the street in front of it. The photograph was made between 1900 and 1915 by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for large-format views of the city, its businesses, and its streets in that period. Brewing was a major Detroit industry, and the wide format lets viewers see how the plant's buildings and the surrounding street fit together. Prohibition later brought an end to commercial brewing across the country, so pictures like this one record a local industry at its peak.
