Two glass plate negatives, printed as a wide panorama, show the Goebel Brewing Company complex in Detroit during the years between 1900 and 1915. The Detroit Publishing Company made the view, and its firm specialized in large, carefully composed scenes of American cities and industries in the early twentieth century. The panoramic format lets the viewer take in the whole brewery and the streets around it, a useful record of how a major industrial plant fit into the city's working neighborhoods. Beer was one of Detroit's most important manufactured goods in this period, so the scene also reflects the scale of the city's brewing trade before Prohibition.
