This set of four glass negatives, made by the Detroit Publishing Company, documents the Detroit Museum of Art, the institution later known as the Detroit Institute of Arts. The views include a sculpture the cataloger tentatively titled "The Laborer," a museum courtyard, a display of antique chests and plaques, and a bust of a woman, with deer also listed among the subjects. The Detroit Publishing Company was a commercial photography firm that produced views of American cities and landmarks in the early 20th century, and its glass plates give a record of how the museum's collections were arranged between 1920 and 1930. Because the title and sitter are uncertain, the set is most useful as a snapshot of the interior spaces and holdings of that period.
