Goebel Brewing Co. was one of Detroit's working breweries when this view was made, and the wide format shows the plant and the street alongside it. The panorama was assembled from two glass negatives, part of the Detroit Publishing Company's large commercial survey of American cities in the years before 1915. Brewing was a major Detroit industry, supported by a large German-American population, and it came to an end when national Prohibition took effect in 1920. The plates were later given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949 before reaching the Library of Congress.
