Among the National Photo Company's many Washington views, this one turns to a working civic institution: a group portrait made at the Emergency Hospital, which handled accident and sudden-illness cases in the city. The studio was a commercial photography firm active in the capital in the early twentieth century, and this negative is dated to about 1924 based on others in the same range. The glass plate shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of its original coating, which is worth keeping in mind when studying the faces and details.
