A group gathered for the Apple Blossom Festival on May 1, 1924, is the subject of this glass negative, made by the National Photo Company, a commercial studio whose photographers documented events and people across the United States in the early twentieth century. Apple blossom festivals celebrated the bloom of orchard country each spring, often with parades, queens, and community gatherings, so a posed group at such an event offers a record of local civic life. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the collection in 1947. Its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the natural deterioration of the original coating, which are worth keeping in mind when viewing the image.
