This glass negative shows President Calvin Coolidge posing with a group on May 6, 1924, within a year of his succession to the presidency after Warren G. Harding's death in 1923. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials and public events in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, made the picture. Visitors may notice streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings over time.
