Coolidge's visit to Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac from Washington, is the focus of this glass negative, which the record dates to May 25, 1924, about a year and a half into his presidency. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio known for its news and portrait work in the early twentieth century, made the negative. Its emulsion has begun to deteriorate, so streaks and blemishes mar parts of the image, a common sign of glass plates of this age. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French.
