A glass plate from May 6, 1924, shows President Calvin Coolidge posed with a group whose members the record does not name. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented political figures and public life in the capital in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and the Library of Congress later received it as a gift in 1947. Coolidge had taken office the previous August after Warren Harding's death, so the sitting falls early in his presidency. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes that come from the breakdown of the original emulsion coating, which are typical of glass negatives of this age.
