Little is settled about this group portrait beyond its title, Handley Motor Co. group, which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve and which has not been independently verified. The date of about 1924 is inferred from other negatives in the same range, so it is best read as a mid-1920s image. The National Photo Company, based in Washington, D.C., made many glass negatives of businesses, streets and people in the early twentieth century, and this one came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. The streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coatings.
