A artesian-style flowing well at Wequetonsing, a summer resort community on Little Traverse Bay near Harbor Springs, Michigan, is the subject here, with cottages and dwellings in the background. Around 1906, when this glass negative was made, the Detroit Publishing Company was documenting resorts, towns and scenic spots across the country for sale as postcards and prints. Wells like this one were a practical source of water for summer households that had no municipal supply, so the picture shows both a place of leisure and the everyday infrastructure that supported it.
