This view shows the steamer *City of Cleveland*, hull 168, resting on the ways at a shipyard in Wyandotte, Michigan, a river town just south of Detroit. Taken in 1907, the glass negative captures a Great Lakes passenger and cargo steamer out of the water, with its hull open to inspection or repair. Ships on the ways reveal construction and maintenance details that are hidden once a vessel is afloat, which makes such scenes valuable to historians of lake shipbuilding. The Detroit Publishing Company, which documented American towns, industry and transportation in this period, made the image.
