Grindelwald's Hotel Bären stands in the foreground of this view, with the Wetterhorn rising above the village in the Bernese Oberland. The print is a photochrom, a process that the Zurich firm Photoglob developed in the late 1880s. It combined photographs with hand-applied color stone lithography, and it made Swiss alpine scenes popular with travelers and armchair tourists in the 1890s. The hotel and its mountain backdrop helped define Grindelwald as a destination for climbers and visitors.
