This photograph shows the start of a race at the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet, held in early September 1910 at Squantum, near Boston. The meet was one of the first large public gatherings of aircraft in the United States, drawing crowds to watch early airplanes take off and compete only a few years after the Wright brothers' first powered flights. The print was made by the Boston Photo News Co. and is part of the Ernest L. Jones Collection, so it offers a close look at how the event was recorded for newspapers and local audiences at the time.
