The record places this view at the Boston Ball Grounds in September 1912, a month when the city's baseball fans were following a close pennant race. The Red Sox had opened Fenway Park earlier that spring and went on to win the World Series that October, so the season was a lively one in Boston. The photograph comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, a large body of news pictures taken for newspapers in the early twentieth century, and it captures the crowds and field setup typical of ballparks of that era.
