A crowd of spectators stands around an airship resting on the ground, the kind of scene that drew large audiences to airship flights in the years before World War I. The caption calls it "Blimp, Zeppelin No. 3," but the title comes from unverified Bain News Service data, and the word "blimp" is loose here, since Zeppelins were rigid airships with internal frames. Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's German airships were then the most publicized in the world, so the photograph captures both the machine and the public fascination it provoked.
