Despite its title, this glass negative shows a Zeppelin, a rigid airship built around an internal metal frame, rather than a blimp, which keeps its shape by gas pressure alone. Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's company in Germany built the No. 3 in the mid-1900s, and its flights drew wide press attention as airships were then seen as a possible route to practical air travel and military use. The Bain News Service caption supplying the title and 1907 date is unverified, so the record's details should be checked against other sources. The negative is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress.
