Zeppelin No. 3 was a rigid German airship, not a blimp, so the "blimp" in this title is likely a loose label from the caption, which the record itself describes as unverified. The record dates the negative to August 30, 1907, a few years after Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's first airships began flying from Lake Constance. The glass plate comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose news photographs document American and foreign events from the early twentieth century, and it shows how quickly lighter-than-air travel was drawing public attention.
