Zeppelin III, the rigid airship built by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's company, is shown here drifting over an open field near Berlin. Zeppelin's airships drew wide public attention in Germany before World War I, when the government saw them as possible military tools and crowds gathered to watch their flights. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information the Bain News Service wrote on the glass negative, which may not be fully accurate. The picture is still worth a look for its rare glimpse of an early airship low over the ground.
