Zeppelin III, the third rigid airship built by Ferdinand von Zeppelin's company, is the subject here, though the title comes from caption data recorded by the Bain News Service that has not been independently verified. Zeppelin's long, gas-filled craft were drawing wide attention in Europe and abroad by the late 1900s, as observers debated whether they could serve as passenger transport or as military vessels. Bain's agency worked as a news photography service in New York, so this glass negative reflects the public curiosity that followed these early airships.
