Tasker L. Oddie, who served as governor of Nevada before winning a seat in the United States Senate, is the subject of this picture, which the date range places in his first year or two in Washington. He took office in 1921, and the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented officials and public life in that era, made many portraits of newly arrived lawmakers. The image survives on a small glass negative, and its record notes streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of the original coating, a common trait of glass plates of this age that can soften fine detail.
