This Washington studio portrait from January 8, 1927, shows Senator Frederick M. Sackett of Kentucky posed with Mrs. John W. Langley and a Senator Ernst, whose full identity the record does not confirm. The National Photo Company, which operated in Washington from about 1906 to 1932, documented officials, society figures and visitors to the capital, and its glass negatives capture the formal portrait style of that era. Because the caption came from data the company wrote on the negative sleeve, the names are unverified. The glass shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, a common condition in negatives of this age.
