A storefront on Fifth Avenue is the focus of these two glass negatives, which carry the Detroit Photographic Co. name at 229 Fifth Avenue in New York. The Detroit firm used its New York address to market its views of American cities and landscapes, and the signage here served as advertising on one of the city's busiest streets. The two plates are nearly identical, and one is labeled "dup," so the company likely kept a second copy. The pair came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
