Rather than the building's famous main facade, this is a flat side elevation, an architectural drawing that shows the structure's profile and window placement without perspective. The Library of Congress's main building on Capitol Hill was designed by John L. Smithmeyer and Paul J. Pelz in an ornate Beaux-Arts style and completed in 1897. Drawings like this guided construction and recorded the design for later study. The record preserves it as a black-and-white film copy, so the original's fine linework survives mainly as contrast.
