Dated June 30, 1924, this glass negative is titled as a portrait of Calvin Coolidge and his family, during the months when he was president and seeking his own full term that fall. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that recorded officials, visitors, and public events in the early twentieth century, made it. The record notes streaks and blemishes caused by deterioration of the original coating, a reminder of how fragile these negatives are. The title came from the studio's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the identification of the sitters should be treated as provisional.
