Calvin Coolidge, then serving as president, is the subject of this 1924 glass negative, taken on October 23 at a New York Business Men's Association gathering. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented federal officials and public events in the early twentieth century, made the image. Coolidge was in the middle of his first full term after succeeding Warren G. Harding in 1923, and the 1924 campaign season was already underway. Glass negatives like this one were the standard way press photographers captured such occasions before film became common.
