Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president, is shown buying tuberculosis seals on December 1, 1924, according to the record's date. The seals were Christmas Seals, charity stamps sold to raise money against tuberculosis, a campaign the National Tuberculosis Association had run in the United States since 1907. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented public life in the capital, made the glass negative, and its age shows in the streaks and blemishes left by deterioration in the original coating. The title comes from data supplied by the studio and has not been independently verified.
