A January 19, 1925, glass negative from the National Photo Company shows President Calvin Coolidge with Everett Sanders, a Republican politician who later served as a close aide to the president. The photograph dates from the last winter of Coolidge's term as president, which he had assumed after Warren Harding's death in 1923. The National Photo Company worked in Washington from about 1906 to 1936, making news and portrait pictures of officials, and its glass plates capture the look of official Washington in the 1920s. Visible streaks and blemishes on the negative come from the gradual breakdown of its original coating.
