Captains C.T. Brooks and L.W. Burnham, identified in the studio's caption as Marine aides to the President, are the subjects of this glass negative dated January 12, 1925. Marine officers were often assigned to serve as aides at the White House, a post that put them near the chief executive during official receptions and visits. The negative comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that recorded government officials and events on glass plates in the early twentieth century. Streaks and blemishes in the coating are common on glass of this age, so the image may appear softer than the original.
