Calvin Coolidge poses with a silver cup that he was scheduled to present to enlisted men, as the title notes, on October 18, 1924, while he was serving as President. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented government officials and public events in the 1910s and 1920s, made the picture as a glass negative. Because the coating on glass plates can flake, streak, or fade over time, the image shows the blemishes typical of its age, and it remains a useful record of an official ceremony from Coolidge's first full year in the White House.
