The Hulett house and its gazebo, set against the water of Lake George in New York, give this panorama its focus. It was made as three separate sections, left, center, and right, so the lakeside grounds spread across a wide field of view. Around 1907 the Detroit Photographic Company produced many scenes of northern resorts like this one, and Lake George had become a favorite summer destination for visitors arriving by steamboat and rail. The picture captures the leisure culture of the period, with its lawns, open water, and open-air pavilions.
