Roosevelt is shown on a campaign stop through New Jersey, and the caption describes the trip as taking place before a party convention. The record offers two possible dates, c1913 or September 3, 1912, and notes that the data comes from an old caption card and has not been verified. The 1912 date would place the picture during Roosevelt's run for president on the Progressive ticket after he broke with the Republican Party. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm that supplied news photographs to newspapers, made and copyrighted the image, so it reflects the style of press photography of the period.
