Roosevelt is shown at his desk in the White House, a setting that stereograph cards of the period often used to bring presidential offices into American parlors. Stereo views like this one were viewed through a hand-held stereoscope, which made the room appear to stand out in three dimensions. The card carries a copyright credit to R.Y. Young, a commercial photographer who produced stereographs of Washington and its officials. Worth noticing is that the date of about 1903 comes from the caption card and is unverified, so it places the picture within Roosevelt's first term, roughly the years after he took office in 1901.
