This stereograph shows Theodore Roosevelt seated at his desk in the White House, a paired image designed to be seen through a hand viewer for a three-dimensional effect. Roosevelt had taken office in September 1901 after William McKinley's assassination, and his energetic public style made him a frequent subject for photographers. The H.C. White Co., which issued this card as No. 9901, was one of several firms that supplied stereoviews to households eager for scenes of famous people and places. The c1902 date comes from the caption card, whose details the record notes have not been independently verified.
