Here Roosevelt is shown leaving the White House grounds for the Capitol, a short trip that presidents made often for ceremonies and official business. The card was published by Griffith & Griffith, a firm that produced stereoviews for viewing through a stereoscope in parlors, and its catalog number places it among many such scenes of the capital. Old caption notes list police and inauguration among the subjects, but the record marks these as unverified, so the occasion remains uncertain. Dating to about 1905, the picture comes from the early years of Roosevelt's own term, when he was becoming one of the most photographed presidents.
