Roosevelt is shown leaving the White House by horse-drawn carriage, a scene the caption links to his inauguration around 1905. He had become president in September 1901 after William McKinley's assassination, then won a term of his own in 1904 and was sworn in for it in March 1905. The date and occasion come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified, but the scene fits the formal processions that marked presidential inaugurations of the period, when carriages still carried officials between the White House and the Capitol.
