Drawbridges in Tokyo and the foreign visitors who passed them are the subjects that set this drawing apart from the other Japanese work on the board. The catalog record places the scene in Tokyo between 1850 and 1900, a period after Japan reopened its ports to Western trade, when foreign travelers became a more common sight in the capital. The attributed artist, Isoda Koryūsai, worked in Edo roughly between 1764 and 1788, so the 1750 date on the record is probably a cataloguing estimate rather than the drawing's true age.
