The WPA poster "See America: Welcome to Montana" was designed by M. Weitzman in 1936 as part of the Federal Art Project's push to promote domestic travel during the Great Depression. The silkscreen print uses bold flat color to present Montana's mountain scenery as an invitation to visitors, a common approach in the Works Progress Administration's tourism posters of the late 1930s. The verso bears a June 28, 1939 date stamp, showing that the sheet passed through an office or collection well after its original printing. Its survival in the Library of Congress's WPA Poster Collection makes it a useful record of how federal artists marketed the American West to a country still recovering from economic hardship.
