This glass negative shows the battleship *Kansas* during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration of 1909, a New York commemoration of Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage up the river and Robert Fulton's 1807 steamboat run. The celebration brought a parade of American and foreign warships to the Hudson, and the event drew large crowds to the waterfront. The photograph was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers documented American landscapes, cities, and public events in the early twentieth century. Its large 8 x 10 inch negative preserves fine detail of the ship's hull and superstructure.
