The French battleship *Justice* was one of the foreign warships that drew crowds to the Hudson River during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration in the fall of 1909. That event marked 300 years since Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage up the river and 100 years since Robert Fulton's steamboat *Clermont* made its first run. New York staged naval parades and reviews to honor both anniversaries, and visiting ships from several European nations were moored or steamed past the city as part of the display. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm known for its wide-ranging views of American and foreign scenes, made this large glass-plate negative, which preserves the ship's steel bulk against the river.
