Lydia Archibald is the only subject named in this glass negative's record, and the title comes from the National Photo Company's own notes on the negative sleeve, which the Library of Congress has not verified. The company was a Washington, D.C. commercial studio that produced large numbers of portraits and views in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates were often filed by date and sitter. This example is dated March 18, 1927, and came to the Library in 1947 as a gift from Herbert A. French. Its record notes streaks and blemishes from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion, which are worth looking for when viewing the plate.
