Judas leaning in to kiss Christ in the garden of Gethsemane is the moment this engraving freezes, with armed men pressing close and Peter's sword already drawn. Albrecht Dürer, working in Nuremberg, signed and dated the copper plate in 1508, and the sheet belongs to his engraved Passion series, scenes meant to circulate as individual prints. The dense, precise lines model the torchlight, the crowded figures, and the armor, showing how far he had pushed the technique. Collector's marks on the back indicate that this impression passed through several private hands before reaching the library.
