Issued under the Yum Yum tobacco name by August Beck & Company, this 1888 card is an albumen print, a photographic process that used egg white and was widely used in the 1880s. Tobacco firms of the period often inserted cards like this into their packages to stiffen the packing and encourage repeat buying, and collectors later valued them as early records of ballplayers and teams. The Library's title, "Yum Yum Tobacco (N403)," was devised by its own staff, so the card's original caption is not recorded here. The card now belongs to the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards in the Prints and Photographs Division.
