A large pagoda rising above the grounds identifies this stereograph as a view of the Chinese Pavilion at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the world's fair that opened in St. Louis in 1904 to mark a century since the United States acquired the Louisiana Territory. Many countries built their own structures across the fairgrounds, and this pagoda-style building drew on Chinese architecture. The image was issued as a stereo card by C.L. Wasson of the International View Company, a paired photograph meant to be viewed through a stereoscope for a three-dimensional effect. Its card number, 3088, places it among the company's many sets of fair views.
