A reflected pavilion over calm water is the focus of this stereograph of Forest Park in St. Louis, the large public park on the city's western edge. Forest Park was laid out in the 1870s and grew into a favorite spot for strollers, boaters, and picnickers, and its lakes and classical-style structures were a point of civic pride. The card dates to about 1898, when stereographs like this were sold in sets for home viewers, who used a stereoscope to see the scene in three dimensions. The record's date and attributions come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
