Stacked tile in an open storage yard gives a sense of the scale of St. Louis's clay products industry around 1905. Stereographs like this one were made as pairs of nearly identical photographs, which a stereoscope fused into a single three-dimensional view. The Keystone View Company, based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, was one of the largest publishers of such cards in the early twentieth century, and its catalog covered many American cities and industries.
