This stereograph shows the Ferris wheel in the gardens of the French Pavilion at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. The fair opened in April 1904 to mark the centennial of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, though this card is dated around 1905. Amusement rides like this one drew large crowds to the fairgrounds, and H.C. White Company stereo cards like this were sold as souvenirs. Paired through a stereoscope, the two images gave viewers a sense of depth and the feel of being on the grounds.
